NOTE: There are a number of gadiform hosts reported to harbor oocysts of the hepatic clupeid coccidian termed "Eimeria clupearum." These include Pollachius pollachius (Pollack), Merluccius merluccius (European hake), Micromesistius poutassou (Blue whiting), Trisopterus esmarkii (Norway pout), and Trisopterus minutus (Poorcod). Although possible, these reports should be viewed skeptically until experimental transmission studies are performed.
