Description of oocyst: Oocyst shape: subspheroid; number of walls: 1; wall thickness: 1; wall characteristics: smooth, colorless; L x W: 22.1 x 20.6 (20-25 x 19-23); L/W ratio: 1.1; M: absent; OR: present; OR characteristics: composed of granules; PG: absent. Distinctive features of oocyst: thin, smooth, 1-layered outer wall.

Description of sporocysts and sporozoites: Sporocyst shape: ovoid or lemon-shaped, with thin, smooth wall ~0.5; L x W: 10.2 x 8.0 (9-12 x 6-9); L/W ratio: 1.3; SB: present; SB characteristics: button-shaped; SSB: absent; PSB: absent; SR: present; SR characteristics: finely granular; SP: arranged randomly within sporocyst, without RB. Distinctive features of sporocyst: random arrangement of SP in sporocyst, as they usually are arranged longitudinally.

Prevalence: Oocysts were recovered from 1/3 (33%) G. senegalensis that died at the Amsterdam Zoo on the day after its arrival.

Sporulation: Exogenous. Oocysts sporulated within 12 days in 4% aqueous potassium dichromate solution at 20-24ºC.

Prepatent and patent periods: Unknown.

Site of infection: Unknown. Oocysts recovered from intestinal contents and feces.

Remarks: The type host was imported into the Amsterdam Zoo from Africa. Poelma (1966) noted that the mucous membrane of the jejunum had Amuch mucous and blood with some oocysts. Unfortunately, oocysts of 3 Eimeria spp. and Isospora arctopitheci Rodhain, 1933 (see below) also were described from this animal, so it is impossible to know conclusively to which parasite species to attribute these jejunal oocysts. This species has not been reported since its original description.
