The genus Mantonella Vincent, 1936 (synonym Yakimovella Gousseff, 1936) includes multiple species characterized by oocysts with one sporocyst, each containing four sporozoites. The three species from invertebrates appear valid, whereas the others most likely represent either pseudoparasites or are the result of improper sporulation conditions for the oocysts.
