Type locality: SOUTH AMERICA: Ecuador, Provincia de Morona-Santiago ca 5 km SW of Taisha, 2º 22' S, 77º 30' W, 425 m elev.

Geographic distribution: SOUTH AMERICA: Ecuador.

Description of oocyst: Oocyst shape: ovoid; number of walls: 2 wall thickness: ~1.5; wall characteristics: smooth, colorless outer layer with darker, slightly thicker inner layer; L x W: 20 x 17 (15-19 x 18-21); L/W ratio: 1.2 (1.0-1.3); M: absent; OR: absent; PG: present, rough, ovoid, ~2 in size. Distinctive features of oocyst: lack of M & OR.

Description of sporocysts and sporozoites: Sporocyst shape: ovoid; L x W: 12 x 8 (7-9 x 11-13); L/W ratio: 1.5 (1.2-1.7); SB: present, dome or bubble-like; SSB: present, ellipsoid, directly beneath SB; PSB: absent; SR: present; SR characteristics: a single, spherical body composed of coarse uniform granules or as numerous irregular clusters throughout the sporocyst; SP: elongate, sausage-shaped with ovoid centrally located nuclei and spherical, posterior RBs, lying randomly in sporocyst, often curled around each other. Distinctive features of sporocyst: shape of SB.

Prevalence: 6 of 11 (55%).

Sporulation: Exogenous. Oocysts were stored in 2.5% (w/v) aqueous potassium dichromate solution at ambient temp. prior to examination.

Prepatent and patent periods: Unknown.

Site of infection: Unknown. Oocysts found in feces.

Materials deposited: Phototype and formalin-preserved oocysts, USNPC #84901 and 84902, respectively.

Remarks: This species has not been reported since its original description.
