Description of oocyst: Oocyst shape:
ovoid; number of walls: 2 wall thickness: ~1.5; wall
characteristics: smooth, colorless outer layer with darker, inner layer
of about equal thickness ans outer; L x W: 18 x 16 (15-17 x 16-20); L/W
ratio: 1.2
(1.0-1.2); M: absent; OR: absent; PG: present, rough, ovoid, ~2 in size.
Distinctive features of oocyst: lack of M & OR.
Description of sporocysts and
sporozoites: Sporocyst shape: ovoid; L x W: 11 x 8 (7-8 x 11-12);
L/W ratio: 1.4 (1.4-1.5); SB: present, protruding, nipple-like; SB:
present, rectangular, lying directly beneath SB; PSB: absent; SR: present;
SR characteristics: spherical, ~ 3.5, composed of fine uniform
granules; SP: vermiform, with large, oblong, posterior RB and small
round, centrally located nucleus, the anterior ends tapering greatly and
bearing concentric striations that run across the width from the RB to
the anterior end, lending a ribbed appearance to the SP, arranged
randomly and tightly in sporocysts. Distinctive features of sporocyst:
striated SP.
Prevalence: 3 of 11 (27%).
Sporulation: Exogenous. Oocysts were
stored in 2.5% (w/v) aqueous potassium dichromate solution at
ambient temp. prior to examination.
Prepatent and patent periods:
Unknown.
Site of infection: Unknown.
Oocysts found in feces.
Materials deposited: Phototype and
formalin-preserved oocysts, USNPC #84903 and 84904, respectively.
Remarks: This species has not been
reported since its original description.
