Type locality: SOUTH AMERICA: Ecuador, Provincia de Morona-Santiago ca 5 km SW of Taisha, 2º 22' S, 77º 30' W, 425 m elev.

Description of oocyst: Oocyst shape: subspheroid; number of walls: 12 wall thickness: ~2.0; wall characteristics: smooth, colorless outer layer with darker inner layer; L x W: 23.4 x 21.8 (19-24 x 21-27); L/W ratio: 1.1 (1.0-1.2); M: absent; OR: absent; PG: present. Distinctive features of oocyst: lack of M & OR.

Description of sporocysts and sporozoites: Sporocyst shape: ovoid; L x W: 14.8 x 10.1 (9-11 x 14-16); L/W ratio: 1.5 (1.4-1.7); SB: present, nipple-like; SSB: absent; PSB: absent; SR: present; SR characteristics: coarse granules scattered among the SP and sometimes loosely clustered; SP: vermiform shaped with an ovoid, posterior RB and an ovoid, centrally located nucleus. Distinctive features of sporocyst: a thin membrane appears to surround the SP and SR.

Prevalence: 18 of 41 (44%).

Sporulation: Exogenous. Oocysts were stored in 2.5% (w/v) aqueous potassium dichromate solution at ambient temp. prior to examination.

Prepatent and patent periods: Unknown.

Site of infection: Unknown. Oocysts found in feces.

Materials deposited: Phototype, USNPC #86671 and formalin-preserved oocysts, USNPC #86672.

Remarks: This species has not been reported since its original description.
